Press Release: Jaguars Executive, Tony Khan invests in TruMedia Networks

Jacksonville Jaguars Executive Tony Khan makes strategic investment in TruMedia Networks

TruMedia plans expansion of its engineering and product development team

BOSTON – TruMedia Networks today announced that they have finalized a strategic investment from Tony Khan, the Jacksonville Jaguars SVP of Football Technology and Analytics. As a result of this investment, the Boston-based software engineering firm will expand its engineering and product development team.

Since Shahid Khan purchased the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2011, the franchise has undergone a bevy of innovative changes. With a focus on developing a long term strategy for success Shahid Khan put an emphasis on advanced analytics. This led to the hiring of his son, Tony Khan. The younger Khan joined the Jaguars in 2012 to start the team’s Football Technology and Analytics group. He’s chiefly responsible for exploring new technology and its application within all areas of the organization, while also providing insight to the coaching and scouting departments.

“Our initial meeting with Tony and his team was energizing,” said Rafe Anderson, President and CEO of TruMedia Networks. “Tony has a passion for sports data analytics and he has built a very impressive team of analysts. Tony shares our vision and understands the market, so it was clear to us that Tony’s unique perspective and industry expertise would add great value to TruMedia. That said, we didn’t anticipate our relationship with Tony leading to an investment, but we are thrilled with the outcome.”

Since entering the sports analytics marketplace in 2010, TruMedia has launched a suite of robust sports analytics products covering baseball (MLB and MiLB), soccer (domestic and international) and football (NFL and NCAA). As a result, TruMedia’s client base includes a portfolio of professional teams and sports media properties.

“Team, player and game analysis has a direct impact on a team’s long-term success,” said Tony Khan. “My investment in TruMedia was motivated by my faith in TruMedia’s executive team, the feedback I received from TruMedia’s existing clients and my personal belief that the demand for next generation sports analytics will continue to grow. We have already seen the value in TruMedia’s suite of football products, and I look forward to supporting TruMedia’s aggressive plans for expansion."
